I wish I can sit here and say, my mom took me out when I was younger and showed me the stars. That we took a camping trip when Halley’s Comment came soaring by and we studied the skies together. I wish I can say that my dad took me out and pointed out all the constellations and provided me with the awe inspiring and breath taking moments our universe has to offer. Although these memories never happened, I learned to love the unknown and star gaze on my own.
It want until my senior year in high school that I really took notice of the possibility of an asteroid coming in contact with a planet. Shoemaker-Levy 9 that broke apart in ’92 and collided with Jupiter in July of ’94. That got me excited to see something of that magnitude take place in real time. From that point on I was fascinated with Solar and Lunar eclipses, the finding of alien life and overall the feeling of are we alone in this vast universe. So much that I even started using SETI on my computer to search for extraterrestrial live.
Although I have not traveled to see any Lunar or Solar eclipses, I have been blessed to see a few here and there with my family. I always make sure the kids know when it will take place and how to use protective glasses for viewing.
I made sure this year that both my kids were sent to school with viewing glasses so they can experience amazing experience. Both my step-mom and my dad have passed away and I can say more than likely both of them have never experienced a full total eclipse. Although I only experienced a partial eclipse this time around, I can say that even experiencing a partial eclipse is worth sharing with your family. It really is amazing, some how the size of our moon is the perfect distance and size, to cover the diameter of our sun from our viewpoint here on Earth.
If you have never experienced a total eclipse, partial eclipse, I definitely suggest you make time no matter what you are doing. This is an experience that will say with you forever.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup salted butter
1/4 cup sweetener – monk fruit works well
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter – Adams works well
Directions:
Cut up butter in small pieces and add to a medium sauce pan. Over medium heat let the butter melt. Once melted add sweetener. Reduce to a simmer and then add heavy whipping cream. Stir and cook for 3-4 minutes, do not let it burn. Heat until it is thick and creamy.
Remove pan from heat and whisk in peanut butter until there are no lumps.
Pour mixture into a wax-paper lined loaf pan and refrigerate for 1-2 hours. Cut into 1 inch squares. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
Setting up Push Notifications with IOS and ZNC
Posted: 13th April 2017 by Jab in Stuff I see at work, UbuntuFor years I have been trying to get a good application to send me sms notifications when people ping me in IRC. I think most of why this hasn’t happened is me being lazy. However I have since decided once and for all to finally figure this out and get it working. Since there will be a day that I forget what I actually did to get this to work I am going to create this tutorial. Follow along and if you have any questions, I might be able to answer them. Then again maybe not. Non the less here is what I did.
I already have a dedicated server running ZNC. ZNC is a portable open source IRC bouncer. This way I can have multiple clients from different locations can connect to my ZNC account simultaneously and therefore appear under the same nickname on IRC. Since I already have ZNC installed I need to install the development package before I can build my own modules.
$sudo apt-get install znc-dev
Some plugins do require to have the ca-certificates package installed. znc-push is one of those packages so lets install that.
$sudo apt-get install ca-certificates
Next if you don’t already have git installed you may want to install that
$ sudo apt-get install git
$ git clone https://github.com/jreese/znc-push.git
$ cd znc-push
$ znc-buildmod push.cpp
$ make install
$ cp push.so /home/<homedirectory>/.znc/modules/push.so
Next you will want to head over to your irc client and load the new module.
/msg *status loadmod push
*status | Loaded module [push] [directory/where/push.so/is/located]
Ok now that should be loaded phew the hard part is over. Mostly! Nest we will sign up for a service that we will use to push these notifications to your, in my case, iOS device. This will also work for Android. I use a service called Pushover. I like it because it uses Apple’s secure push notifications service for instant delivery. Plus it sends those notifications to my watch, bonus! Once you download the app and log into the website you will see your phone under Your Devices.
- Next you will want to set up an Application
- Give your application a name – in my case: znc-push
- Type : Application
- Description: irc->SMS
- URL: you can leave this blank
- Agree to the terms and create
Once you do all this it will give you an application API Key – make sure to take note of this.
Following these steps in your IRC client that is connected to your bouncer:
/msg *push set secret (Application API Key )
/msg *push set username (Your User Key)
/msg *push set service pushover
/msg *push set target (Name you created for your Device)
Now from here you should be all set and ready to go. You can test to make sure things are working by turning on debug heres how:
/msg *push set debug on
/msg *push send test
- Once you see everything work out, and you get your test message, be sure to turn debugging off.
/msg *push set debug off

It’s that time of the year again. Where everyone is at their wits about their diets and their health plans. Every year we strive to do better with our diet and with maintaining our physique. Last year I stated the Wheat Belly plan. It is a great plan, it takes out all grains from your diet and you basically eat just meats and vegetables. You can substitute white flour with almond flour to make breads for instance. Corn is not allowed so your oil is reduced to olive oil and coconut oil. This plan was a perfect plan for those that are diabetic as it cuts out all sugars as well. Thus brining by blood sugar numbers down from the high 200 to 90’s.
Last year around October I fell off that diet. I was doing really well and lost about 20 lbs. I wasn’t counting my carb intake at all I just basically changed what I was eating. After we had some other medical issues going on, I got depressed and just starting eating, and gained all my weight back. Non the less I stated the plan again this year, as things are looking better. The goal is to stay on this plan and just eat healthy. I was able to do it most of last year with very little effort.
So I am starting again this year with a weight of 250 lbs. My goal is to be a little more strict than I was last year and lose 25 – 30 lbs this year if not 50. Of course I will try and keep an update on my progress.
I do have back surgery in April. They are going to be fusing L4 – S1. That will put be out of commission for approximately 4 – 6 weeks. This will allow me to have a better more active lifestyle. In which I am wanting to go out hiking more. Walk the dogs more. Play with my kids more. Overall just be more active.
Keep tuned on the progress and wish me luck.
